Dallas & Bailey

from mid-May... Bailey looks almost exactly like Dallas when he was a baby. It will be interesting to see him grow. When the Doctor gave him to me, my first thought was, "This is Dallas!" Since we did not have a name for him (I really thought I was having another girl!) I called him Bubby from the beginning. I don't know where it came from (I was so exhausted!) I think it is a mix of "Bubba" and "baby" since Savanna calls Dallas and Noah "Bubbas." This is one of my favorite pictures, period - there is just something about it...

Surprise!

Bouncy Bubby

June 2006

Bailey in the Bouncer Saucer - he loves it! Savanna didn't care for it so much, so I am glad to be getting some use out of it. I thought these pictures gave quite an array of the many cute faces he can make. In one, he has his fingers in his mouth - Bailey almost ALWAYS has his fingers in his mouth. Dallas sucked the pacifier, Noah didn't suck anything, Savanna still sucks her thumb (while rubbing something on her upper lip), and Bailey goes for the fingers... In another, he is thinking really hard, and he has his toungue out, licking his lips - just like Mama! Sometimes I get chapped lips when I am concentrating really hard on something (like right now!)

The Drumstick

In these pictures (from May), Savanna had just eaten a Drumstick (remember those?). I have found she is much less messy when I give her a fudgesicle - she tears through those before they even have a chance to melt, but Drumsticks take a bit longer, I guess. In the top photo she has bubbles - that is my new form of distraction for her. Every parent has to learn the art of distraction, especially when you have one who throws tantrums! When she starts one of her tantrums that are simply unreasonable and uncontrollable (I think sometimes she forgets why she is upset when she has been screaming for a while), I just start blowing bubbles, and she immediately forgets and starts smiling and enjoying the bubbles. It's great!!

Can you guess what these are?

Savanna at the Ball Park

June 2006

In these photos, Dan took the kids in (I was nursing the Bub in the car) to take a look at the Dell Diamond on the day he went up to Old Settler's Park to check out and take pics of the Round Rock Cub Scout Camp and how they were running their BB Gun station the week before he ran the one at the Georgetown Cub Scout Camp. Savanna was having a blast running away from Daddy. He kept trying to get a picture of her, but she was running away from him, giggling and laughing. He was able to get one really cute photo of her...

Bubby Eating Carrots

July 1, 2006
I fed Bailey for the first time early last month, but I got sick the next day (I probably picked it up from the store where I got the baby food!), and then there was the A/C fiasco... It was just easier to put it off and just nurse him. We fed him green beans first, and he made the funniest face, like "What the heck is this?" I wish I had taken some pictures, but we were just having so much fun I forgot about it. Since Dan was feeding him this time, I ran for the camera! He is almost 7 months old now, so he is really ready for the solid foods now. He opens wide and sucks it down! I knew he was ready when he was reaching out for my pizza the other day and opening his mouth like he wanted a bite! The one pic I thought was cutest was the one where he looks drunk on carrots - I imagine he was feeling just how you feel after Thanksgiving dinner - he ate the whole jar!!

And, yes, he is wearing a pink bib - it was the only one on hand at the time! I hope he forgives us...

P.S. The one where he is smiling and looking to the side - Noah took that picture - he was really proud that he caught that smile...

Happy Fourth!!

June 23, 2006
This is a pic of Dan and the boys that he took of them on the last day of cub scout camp. He volunteered and taught the BB Gun station while Dallas and Noah earned belt loops, pins, and steps toward their ranks in cub scouts. They are eating a drumstick - they were always starving right when they got home from camp - they couldn't even stop eating to pose for a picture! It was extremely hot, but they had a lot of fun (the kids did anyway =) ... I will have to let them get on here soon and say some words about it...

Well, Savanna can pretty much get into any room in the house now. She can open doors!! This has made my life a lot more difficult, especially when I am trying to make dinner. The other day, she was really interested in her "potty" book (it has a button you can push to make the flushing sound), and I guess she wanted some hands on experience. While I was cooking just around the corner, she was in the bathroom. She had her shirt and diaper off and the bathroom floor was covered in water and toilet paper as was she and the walls. There were 2 sopping wet full rolls of toilet paper on the ground also (I am guessing she was dipping them in when it got too frustrating to try to get off swatches). So dinner had to be put on hold while I gave Savanna a bath. Dan was working overtime, but I called him in for reinforcement because I was a bit overwhelmed. He came right home and cleaned up the bathroom so I could finish dinner. ARRRGGGHHH! That's when you know it is time for the door handle thingies to keep the kids out... What's really weird is that she will open every door in the house, but when we put her in her room for naptime or bedtime, she will not try to get out. If I am outside the door and I call her name, she will open the door, but she stays in there otherwise. I will only question it a little though because I am sooooo thankful for it!!! (for now, anyway...)

Happy Fourth!! TTFN - Carrie

The First Post

I am starting this blog to have an outlet to share my thoughts and feelings about my family and also the things I enjoy to do. Dan and the kids might post some stuff they would like to share also, so that is why I call it "The Mays Family." Right now not much is going on except the typical crazy chaos that comes from having 4 kids! We are so lucky to have air conditioning - I have to let that be the first thing I talk about. On Saturday, June 10th, our A/C stopped working. The fan went out, and they were not able to fix it until Tuesday morning. Since I was still very sick with a cold, I could not bear dealing with it, so Sunday evening we stayed in a hotel. It was sort of an adventure for us. the kids had a lot of fun; Dan took them swimming in the pool. We stayed 2 nights. It was expensive but worth it!!

Unbelievably, the next Friday, June 16th, the A/C compressor blew up. The A/C tech said one issue had nothing to do with the other, so you can say we have really weird luck! It was such a good night for us up until then. My friend Jennifer and her family came over to watch the kids for us so Dan and I could go an a date - our first since Bailey was born. And I commented to Jennifer how much I appreciated air conditioning and that I would never take it for granted again. And not 2 hours later we heard a pop and crash which was the compressor blowing up. Again, it was not until Tuesday that the compressor was replaced. Since we could not afford any more nights in the hotel, we purchased a portable A/C from Home Depot to keep the master bedroom cool so we had a place to go for comfort. We all 6 of us slept in one room! Another adventure for the Mays family!!! Here is Noah and Savanna out for the night on the floor of our room:

Thankfully the parts were under warranty, but overall we shelled out over $500 for the labor (not including the $250 spent on the hotel). You can safely say I have had enough adventure for the summer. Dan still wants to take the kids to Schlitterbahn later this month, but Savanna and Bailey are too young. I will be staying with them while they play. It may not have been very enjoyable, but this will definitely be a summer I will never forget. I think many years from now I will think back and laugh about it!! But for now, having written about it, I am letting it go and moving on to happier subjects in future posts!!
